View in Room
On this page
View in Room shows any artwork at its true size in a virtual room — on the screen, through the camera in AR, and with your own 3D models — so a client sees how it lives on a wall before it leaves the crate. This article describes WrkLst 10.
What it does
It uses the work's real dimensions: not an impression, its actual size in a room. Flat works hang centred at eye level; sculpture and crated works can be shown too. The sides of a work take the colours along the edges of its picture, so a frame or a painted edge runs round it.
Open a work and expand View in Room. Choose the Measurement when there are several, the Placement — Wall or Free — and a Figure (at the Figure height you set), a Bench or both for scale. Drag to turn the room, shift- or ⌘-drag to move it, shift- or ⌘-scroll to zoom; the Turn and move buttons and the arrow keys do the same. Fullscreen fills the screen for a client.
In the work's Dimensions, each size can be the View in Room default and have its own View in Room image, so a diptych, or a work with and without frame, appears with the right picture at the right size.
Your clients can use it too: in a presentation and on your WrkLst website, a work offers View in Room — a box with its picture for each measurement its caption shows, and on a page built from blocks also its 3D model — and View in AR on the phone. In the block editor, View in Room choices sets what each work offers, and in which order. Their page notes that the view is a guide to size only and the actual work may look different.
The artwork, not the wall
View in Room finds the artwork in a photo by itself — an installation shot's wall stays out — checked against the work's measurements. Crop for View in Room in the viewer offers Automatic, Manual (drag the corners to the artwork; Keep the measured proportions holds the ratio) or Whole image. Only View in Room uses this crop; the image stays as it is everywhere else.
AR: the work on your own wall
On iPhone, iPad and Android, View in AR places the work at its real size through the camera: choose On a wall or On the floor, tap to place it, tap again to move it.
Your own 3D models
Add a model under the work's 3D models with Add 3D model: GLB is best, USDZ works too, up to 100 MB, at the work's real size. View in Room and AR then show the real object instead of a box. If the size is off, WrkLst says so and offers Fit to the dimensions.
A model offered on your website or in a presentation can be downloaded by anyone who sees it, exactly as uploaded — including whatever the scan app stored in it. You choose for each work where its model is offered.
An iPhone Pro (12 Pro or newer) or iPad Pro scans an object in minutes — in the WrkLst app, which adds the model to the work, or in Apple's Reality Composer, whose USDZ you add here. Matte, slightly textured objects scan best; mirrors, glass, polished metal and very thin parts do not. For finer detail, a handheld 3D scanner or a scanning service delivers a GLB at real size, and Blender, SketchUp, Rhino or Cinema 4D export .glb.

Centimetres or inches: the same preview serves a European and an American client.
When to use it
For the question photos answer worst — how big is it, really — and in-house when planning a hang.
