Contact import & sync

Contact import and sync in WrkLst. Bring in the people from your phone without doubling anyone, and carry your WrkLst contacts on every device you use.

There are two ways in. In Contacts, the import button sits right next to Add contact. Or open Settings, choose Import, then Open contact import. Both lead to the same page.

Choose a vCard from your phone, or any CSV file. WrkLst reads it, tidies it, and shows a review. Nothing is created yet. You see how many are new, and how many are already here.

A phone holds everyone, from the studio to the plumber. So you decide who comes in. Search the list, and untick whoever doesn't belong. The bar at the foot counts what is selected.

WrkLst recognises people by e-mail, phone number or name. Already here as Patrick Potter means no double is made. If the card brings something new, like a second phone number, it says Can be merged. A merge only adds, it never overwrites.

Choose Import selected. The import runs in the background, and you can close the page. At the end, WrkLst tells you how many contacts were created, and how many were merged. Someone who asked not to be contacted is marked Don't reach out.

Now the other direction: your WrkLst contacts on your phone. In Settings, under Address book, choose New app password, and name the device, say Anna's iPhone. It isn't your WrkLst password. It opens nothing but the address book.

Choose what this device syncs: all contacts, or only the contacts on some lists. Groups come along, one for each list, and one for each of the three roles with an icon. So the phone is sorted the way WrkLst is.

WrkLst shows the server, the user name and the app password, only this once. On an iPhone, iPad or Mac, download the profile and install it. On Android, enter the three values in the DAVx5 app. Then the contacts appear by themselves.

The sync runs one way. You edit in WrkLst, and the phone follows. The list shows every device and its last sync. Disconnect one, and at its next sync the WrkLst contacts are removed from that device.

Five habits make the difference. Import a whole address book once, then choose. Leave private numbers out. Merge only what brings something new. Make one app password per device. And disconnect an old phone as soon as you replace it.
